EMDR Therapy is an approach I offer to help people process traumatic memories, distressing experiences or deeply rooted emotional pain. It is particularly helpful when past events feel “stuck,” replaying through intrusive thoughts, body reactions or sudden emotional overwhelm.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) supports the brain in processing memories that were never fully resolved. You do not need to retell every detail — instead, we work gently with images, thoughts, sensations and emotions to support healing at your pace. EMDR can be effective for PTSD, complex trauma, childhood experiences and shame-based beliefs.
I use EMDR within a wider, trauma-informed approach to ensure safety and stability. Before processing begins, we build resources such as grounding, parts awareness (IFS) or imagery techniques (Schema). This helps ensure that the work remains contained and emotionally manageable.
EMDR is never forced — we adapt each phase depending on your readiness, and I integrate it with other therapeutic approaches developed over more than 20 years in practice.
Some EMDR sessions may involve bilateral eye movements or tapping, while others focus on preparation, insight or integration. The aim is not to relive trauma, but to support your nervous system in releasing it, allowing you to relate differently to painful experiences.
